Master Your Instrument Before Trying Another

Whether you like voice, guitar, piano, drums, or all of the above, try to study lessons in one area first. Spend some serious years developing your craft. Sure, keep other instruments around, but try to master one of them. You can always get more serious about other instruments later. Also, take music lessons privately before moving to a rock school group environment.

Music is competitive so you want to be really good on your first instrument. Also, remember voice is every bit as important to "study" as other instruments. Learn to read, get good technique and learn to improvise. Everyone knows this about guitar and piano, but voice and drum lessons should include the same criteria.

Once you feel competent, feel free to explore other instruments. This will expand your depth as a musician. Who knows, you may do well enough to be good at another or even several other instruments. However, always keep that 1st instrument in your pocket. It is where you shine. Don't just be a "jack of all trades," be a Master first!
